I am a recognised thought leader and international speaker in Digital transformation and operations and unleashing data to improve organisational performance. I bring a practical and pragmatic lens to transformation. Combining my experience in security and operations with organisation transformation and cultural change enables me to cut through the hype to deliver sustainable results.
I have been promoting cross-government big data analytics and led strategic initiatives to drive interoperability through organisation colocation and to transform the technology department to be a centre for innovation, flexibility, adaptability, and responsiveness to customer needs.
I have extensive experience in the data field with previous roles in the UK and NZ Defence and intelligence communities specialising in high operation tempo areas of communications, Electronic Warfare and Signals Intelligence. Prior roles have included Chief Digital Officer at the New Zealand data agency, Stats NZ as well as the Chief Information Officer for the NZ Foreign Intelligence Agency, Government Communications Security Bureau. In both these roles, I have led future-focussed strategies delivering big data processing, analytic and visualisation capabilities, as well as a national and international digital federation and interoperability.
At Stats NZ I led the major transformation of the IT group to become fully cloud-based, supporting a mobile workforce strategy, enabling activity-based working for all employees. For my achievements, I was nominated for NZ CIO of the year twice, in 2017 and 2018, as well as Best ICT team culture in 2020.
